Benefits of Soy

Benefits of Soy

Do you get a headache when a candle is burning? Well, it may not be from the candle! If the candle is a PARAFFIN candle, that candle is spewing hazardous chemicals that are coming from the paraffin wax.

The EPA list the following as being ingredients present in paraffin: Trichloroflouromethane Carbon Disulfide 2-Chlorobenzene Styrene Xylene Phenol Cresol Cyclopenthene Benzene* Toulene*

Clean Burning: One of the most famous benefits of soy candles is how clean they burn. Soy wax doesn’t produce the black soot that paraffin does. While some might say “no soot,” it’s actually “little soot.” Everything that burns puts off smoke, and soy candles are no exception. However, the amount of smoke released from soy wax is so minimum, there are very few that notice it. You won’t get black soot on your walls, ceilings, furniture and carpeting when you burn soy candles! If you have ever had a soy wax candle in the past that did leave black soot around the jar, there are several reasons this may have happened. One explanation is it wasn’t 100% soy, but rather a soy/paraffin blend. Many advertised “soy candles” have unknown blends that you may not catch unless you ask what’s in their candles. Another reason you see black soot could have been the use of metal wicks. While no candle made in the US has lead, but they can have zinc. Zinc wicks are not toxic like lead, but they will produce more soot than cotton or hemp wicks.

Buyer Beware: You’ll see candles advertised as “All Natural” or “Soy Blend”…if they don’t say their candles are 100% Natural, or if they don’t tell you what’s in their candles… ASK! Don’t be fooled by false advertising, either. No candle is “triple scented!” A candle is like a sponge – it can only hold so much fragrance – some people say their candles are triple scented – that’s just an advertising ploy – if a candle was triple scented, the fragrance would just leak out of the candle the way water leaks out of a sponge when it’s over-filled! AND, if someone advertises the fact that there is no lead in their wicks, you can believe them, but, – that, too, is an advertising gimmick – NOBODY uses leaded wicks – leaded wicks are illegal – and have been illegal in the U.S. since the 70′s! And, finally, if someone says they use essential oils in their candles, I’d find that hard to believe – essential oils have a very low flash point – essential oils would probably catch on fire if they were exposed to a flame – so, I can’t see how they can be used in candles that have wicks that are going to be lit!

Tomslitehouse Soy Candles contain only the finest soy wax available, cotton wicks, organic fragrances and body safe coloring. Nothing else is added to these candles…ever! To make things even better, each candle is hand poured! We don’t have candles on the shelf waiting to be ordered, they’re made as they’re ordered.

Promoting American Farmers: Help the farmers and everyone benefits. Soy beans are grown in American fields, and processed into soy wax in the US – nothing is done outside of the U.S.A.! This is one of the most important benefits of soy candles! In fact, after the soy beans are hulled, the waste goes into animal feed!

Cost Effective: You may be shocked by this point, but in many cases soy wax candles can be more cost effective than paraffin; not only in quality, but in quantity, too. Soy not only burns cleaner, but slower than paraffin. A soy candle can burn up to twice as long (sometimes even more!) than a paraffin candle, giving you twice the candle.

Wonderful Scent Throw: When it’s said that a candle scent “throws well,” this means it fills the room with a strong, lasting scent. Soy wax candles not only have a great scent throw, but also have a cleaner smell. Since these candles are all hand poured and made with either organic fragrances, each candle will smell exactly like the name implies! It’s been noted by many that paraffin wax will give them headaches. Of course it’s not the scent itself, but the additional chemicals the paraffin is putting off. Because soy burns so clean, you’ll get a cleaner scent as well. Paraffin wax is made from crude oil – from the bottom of the barrel of crude oil – so, basically, it’s like burning gasoline in your home!
